As summer is unofficially drawing to a close this labor day weekend, so is my blog. I recently completed my chemotherapy treatments after 8 grueling months and have since come to re-evaluate my life and where it is going. I am now cancer-free. I can’t tell you how good it feels to be able to utter those words. Somehow I managed to survive this and it is still difficult to wrap my mind around the entire situation. This has no doubt been the most difficult obstacle I’ve had to face in my life thus far and to still be standing now that the smoke has cleared is something of a revelation. I honestly don’t know how I got through it, but I am eternally grateful that I did. Many people who receive a cancer diagnosis don’t get to the point where they can look back on it and think how lucky they were. They don’t get a second chance. Continue reading
For the past 6 months of my life I have tried desperately to keep a cool head and promote a positive attitude. I’ve tried to be grateful for the little things and turn my frowns upside-down. However, I believe there comes a point in every persons battle with illness where you just can’t fake it anymore. Where your outsides start to reflect your physical feelings inside and you don’t feel like smiling. There are some days you just don’t want to wake up and face your current reality. I cannot tell you how difficult it is to “stay positive” and “keep fighting” when all you feel is pain, suffering and sickness. When life seems to go on around you but you are stuck in the same continuous loop, it can make you so angry you want to scream bloody murder. Continue reading
It feels like it’s been ages since I’ve sat down to write anything for the blog, but in reality it has been around 4 months. So much has gone on in that seemingly endless stretch of time that it is hard to put it into words, I’m just thankful to still be here. Continue reading
Many of you know that I had been having some knee pain for the last couple of months. Like any normal person, I assumed it was from too much bicycling or that I had at worst torn a ligament or something of that nature. Unfortunately, after discovering a mass on my tibia bone in an X-ray , it appeared to be something a bit more substantial than a typical sports injury. The day after New Years I had a biopsy and last Thursday I was informed that I have cancer. Continue reading
There is something so elegant and timeless about a black lace dress with a nude underlay. It is both sexy and ladylike at the same time. Today’s retro revival comes to you courtesy of Miss Sophia Loren and Miss Jessica Chastain, two lovely ladies clad in two very similar lacy frocks!
Jessica recently wore this amazing Oscar De La Renta Pre-Fall 2013 dress to the NYC premiere of the film “Mama”. While that movie looks way too scary for my taste, this stunning cocktail dress is absolutely my cup of tea! Paired with an extraordinary diamond collar by Harry Winston, she is pure vintage perfection! Such a classic retro look on a classically beautiful girl!
Speaking of classically beautiful, I found this photo of screen siren Sophia Loren in an equally stunning black lace dress from the 1950’s. Sophia paired hers with a fabulous veiled hat and simple black heels.
I personally adore both of these dresses, but I prefer the neckline of Jessica’s paired with the fuller flared a line skirt from Sophia’s. To me, that would be a perfect combination! As for the accessories you can’t go wrong with Harry Winston or a magnificent veiled topper 😉
Which look do you Dolls prefer? 1950’s Sophia or contemporary Jessica?
Until next time!
Today Mr. Elvis Presley would have been 78 years old! Hard to believe considering he, much like Marilyn Monroe, never seemed to waver in popularity. I’d dare say he is the most celebrated American Musician of the 20th century, and rightfully so. Continue reading
Well, it is officially New Years Eve, it also happens to be my 31st birthday today! I’m not sure how it happened but alas, here we are! lol Continue reading
