Retro Revival: Jessica Chastain vs. Sophia Loren

There is something so elegant and timeless about a black lace dress with a nude underlay. It is both sexy and ladylike at the same time. Today’s retro revival comes to you courtesy of Miss Sophia Loren and Miss Jessica Chastain, two lovely ladies clad in two very similar lacy frocks!

Jessica recently wore this amazing Oscar De La Renta Pre-Fall 2013 dress to the NYC premiere of the film “Mama”. While that movie looks way too scary for my taste, this stunning cocktail dress is absolutely my cup of tea! Paired with an extraordinary diamond collar by Harry Winston, she is pure vintage perfection! Such a classic retro look on a classically beautiful girl! 

Speaking of classically beautiful, I found this photo of screen siren Sophia Loren in an equally stunning black lace dress from the 1950’s. Sophia paired hers with a fabulous veiled hat and simple black heels. 

I personally adore both of these dresses, but I prefer the neckline of Jessica’s paired with the fuller flared a line skirt from Sophia’s. To me, that would be a perfect combination! As for the accessories  you can’t go wrong with Harry Winston or a magnificent veiled topper 😉

A few things come to mind when one thinks of Elizabeth Taylor; Her amazing collection of jewelry, her incomparable beauty, her 8 marriages, her role as Cleopatra, etc. But “catlady”? Er, not so much.

After watching the Emmy’s a couple of weeks ago, I have to say I wasn’t particularly wowed by many of the gowns on the red carpet. There was one however, that made me swoon; Julianna Margulies in Giambattista Valli haute couture! While brocade fabric is certainly nothing new, it looked so fresh and unexpected! She looked absolutely stunning!

Before she was our beloved Lilly Munster, Yvonne De Carlo was a serious screen siren in the 1940’s and 1950’s. She had one of the most beautiful faces in Hollywood and a style to match. Originally hired by Paramount for her resemblance to Dorothy Lamour, De Carlo quickly proved that she was her own woman and went on to play lead roles in dozens of major motion pictures.

While digging around in my closet this morning, I found one of my beloved childhood mementos…my “Munsters Brew” tee shirt! This shirt used to belong to my mom circa 1988 and I adopted it at some point when I was in high school. The Munsters was such an awesome show and I used to love watching the re-runs on TV when I was a kid. Lilly Munster, played by screen siren Yvonne De Carlo, was my favorite character. Her makeup was pretty awesome and today I decided to accent my tee with a Munster inspired makeup look!
