Hurricanes, Floods and Power Outages, Oh My!

Oh, Sandy! If only you could be as kind and gentle as your Grease counterpart. But no, it seems you are a nasty, relentless beyotch hellbent on wreaking havoc on us poor, unsuspecting East Coasters! Sigh… Continue reading

Paradise Found: The Manhattan Vintage Show!

Last Friday, I attended the Manhattan Vintage Show and I still feel like I am walking on cloud nine! It was my first time seeing it and from the minute I stepped inside, I felt as though I were home. I walked through what felt like endless rows of some of the finest treasures I’ve ever encountered with a sense of wonder and amazement. For me, it was like that first moment when Willy Wonka opened the doors to the chocolate room, lol! It was honestly a bit overwhelming. I didn’t know where to look first and my heart was pounding a mile a minute while my brain tried to process what I was seeing! It’s hard to put into words what it was like to visit such a place, I think it is something every true vintage lover should experience firsthand. Continue reading

Cat On A Hot Tin Roof: Elizabeth Taylor, Hollywood Catlady!

A few things come to mind when one thinks of Elizabeth Taylor; Her amazing collection of jewelry, her incomparable beauty, her 8 marriages, her role as Cleopatra, etc. But “catlady”? Er, not so much.   Continue reading

If it ain’t “Brocade”, don’t fix it!

After watching the Emmy’s a couple of weeks ago, I have to say I wasn’t particularly wowed by many of the gowns on the red carpet. There was one however, that made me swoon; Julianna Margulies in Giambattista Valli haute couture! While brocade fabric is certainly nothing new, it looked so fresh and unexpected! She looked absolutely stunning! Continue reading

Girl About Town: The Lovely Ashley

I first met Ashley at the MAC Hey Sailor event back in the spring when I was instantly drawn to her awesome retro updo. As fate would have it, I had the pleasure of running into her again at the 41st Annual East Village Block Fair a couple of weeks ago. It was funny because I didn’t even recognize her as the last time I saw her she was a redhead with glasses! Ashley is truly a little pinup chameleon and I just adored this darker rockabilly look. It’s Personal 9/27/12: Technical Difficulties?

Okay, I realize I have not posted in a week (for this Dolls, I must apologize!) but I was having some technological sort of drama here on the home front!

Long story short, the ol’ desktop was outta commission with what I thought was a gnarly virus.  In the end, it turns out my fat orange cat has been sleeping on my keyboard and he managed to make my F1 key stick (and I mean STICK!). If you are familiar with Windows, you know that the F1 key controls the help/support button. This would explain why my “virus” opened 87 help windows that I could not seem to close! Thankfully I finally noticed that the damn key was stuck and now my computer is back in action!

Ah, the life of an untechnological cat lady, LOL!

The moral of this story is don’t let fat orange cats nap out on your keyboard when you’re not looking 😉

Stay tuned for more fun fashionable posts!

Drugstore Delight of the Month: Wet N Wild’s Mega Last Matte Lipstick #967 Dollhouse Pink

Hey Dolls, I know it’s been a while since I posted a DDOTM feature ( I think I skipped a month!) so I will try to make this one as swell as possible 😉

I recently discovered a new shade of Wet n Wild’s Mega Last lipstick that really took me by surprise. While I have been a fan of this product for some time and have recommended it to y’all in previous postings ( i.e. Orange Pinup Lipstick), this colour is seriously impressive. For a cheapie lipstick, the colour intensity rivaled that of a high-end product. The consistency was wonderfully opaque and shockingly full-bodied and bold.  And the shade itself? This is a pink that one would encounter in Barbie’s dreamhouse! It’s the quintessential girly girl shade of bright pink. It’s very clear with blue undertones.  Continue reading

NY Fashion Week Spring 2013: Best Vintage & Retro Looks!

Fashion Week came and went ever so quickly this September and there were a surprising amount of vintage inspired collections on the runways! While I am not much of a label hound (Seriously, who has that kind of money to burn?), I like seeing designers with a retro spirit and obvious appreciation for the classics. After going through what felt like a zillion photos from all of the shows, I managed to weed out the best vintage looks for Spring 2013! From 1930’s Art Deco evening wear to mid-century floral frocks, there’s a little something for everyone 😉 Continue reading
