Film Noir Photoshoot!

ArseniaAimeeShootB&W

On Christmas Eve, I stopped in to see my amazing friend and genius hairdresser Arsenia Barias at her salon, Altagracia Unisex. I decided I wanted to try something new for the upcoming year and after watching the film for “Water For Elephants” (one of my favorite books of all time), I was very inspired by Reese Witherspoon’s 1920’s/1930’s chic bob! Vintage Inspired Beauty Products Under $10.00!

I have always been a sucker for pretty packaging. If I had a choice between two identical products but one had a beautiful label and the other didn’t, I would likely go with the nicer looking one! It seems that products of yesteryear had much more decorative and elaborate packaging than their contemporary counterparts. Artful drawings, elegant fonts, metal tins, beveled glass bottles and other little touches made these items appear special.  Continue reading

Drugstore Delight of the Month: Wet N Wild’s Mega Last Matte Lipstick #967 Dollhouse Pink

Hey Dolls, I know it’s been a while since I posted a DDOTM feature ( I think I skipped a month!) so I will try to make this one as swell as possible 😉

I recently discovered a new shade of Wet n Wild’s Mega Last lipstick that really took me by surprise. While I have been a fan of this product for some time and have recommended it to y’all in previous postings ( i.e. Orange Pinup Lipstick), this colour is seriously impressive. For a cheapie lipstick, the colour intensity rivaled that of a high-end product. The consistency was wonderfully opaque and shockingly full-bodied and bold.  And the shade itself? This is a pink that one would encounter in Barbie’s dreamhouse! It’s the quintessential girly girl shade of bright pink. It’s very clear with blue undertones.  Continue reading

My First Professional Vintage Photoshoot!

Last month, I had my very first official photoshoot with a professional photographer! My lovely friend and fabulous hairdresser Arsenia called me and told me she was looking to do a 1930′s style shoot for her book and I jumped at the chance to work with her! She created these gorgeous vintage finger waves to accent my own 1930’s lace dress. I finished off the ensemble by adding my vintage Salvatore Ferragamo t-strap shoes and some art deco rhinestone jewelry. Continue reading

Drugstore Delight of The Month: Maybelline Eye Studio Color Explosion Luminizing Eye Shadow

While digging around in my closet this morning, I found one of my beloved childhood mementos…my “Munsters Brew” tee shirt! This shirt used to belong to my mom circa 1988 and I adopted it at some point when I was in high school. The Munsters was such an awesome show and I used to love watching the re-runs on TV when I was a kid. Lilly Munster, played by screen siren Yvonne De Carlo, was my favorite character. Her makeup was pretty awesome and today I decided to accent my tee with a Munster inspired makeup look!  Continue reading

Le Orange: Pinup Lipsticks Inspired By Jane Russell

I find myself constantly looking towards the past for ideas and inspiration on everything and this week was no exception. I have been obsessing over this stunning photo of Jane Russell and decided to write a little beauty post about her look. Continue reading

Just A Girl: Gwen Stefani, Fashionista Fatale!

When I was a teenager in the mid 90’s, there was this awesome music video channel called “The Box”. Unlike MTV, this network charged viewer’s to select a video that they wanted to see. Well, one fateful day in 1995, someone had requested No Doubt’s debut video “Just A Girl” about 25 times in a row. I was completely transfixed on the television. While the song was amazing (and still gives me goosebumps to this day), there was something about that energetic blonde with the pinup perfect hair and unique sense of style that I just could not get enough of. From that moment on, I had become a die-hard “Gwenabee”! Continue reading

A Fresh Cut, A Fresh Start

Okay, I know I said I would be cutting my hair in a few weeks, but I just couldn’t wait! Last Saturday it was 100 degrees here in NYC and I thought to myself “how much cooler would I be right now if I didn’t feel like there was a cat sitting on top of my head?!”. The sheer weight of my hair was giving me a headache and I was in desperate need of relief! So, I called my best friend and after straightening my mane, we put it into 4 ponytails for donation and cut them off together at her place! It was quite an ordeal as far as preparation, but as soon as I felt the scissor going through my hair, I felt elated! Continue reading

Girl About Town: The Lovely Aurora

I have been wanting to do a regular post about women on the streets of NYC for a while now. Every time I saw an outfit or a hairstyle that I wanted to photograph, I didn’t have my camera with me! Luckily, earlier this week I spotted the lovely Aurora while shopping on Clinton Street and I just happened to have my Nikon handy!  Continue reading

Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow…

Hey there Guys and Dolls! I am cutting my locks in a couple of weeks and I am having a difficult time deciding what exactly I should do with it. It has never been this quite this long before (it is now down to my butt!) and I think it is time to let it go. That being said, deciding on a new style/length is way more trying than I had anticipated. I plan to donate 10-18 inches to charity and am willing to go super short. I’ve been pouring over various photos and magazines trying to find something I like. I have narrowed it down to a few choices I think will work for me. What do you guys think?

My current state of affairs, lol

The longest of the bunch, like the lovely Rita Hayworth?

Shorter and full-bodied, a la Jane Russel?

Just above the shoulder, like the stunning Liz Taylor?

Or a classic shoulder length page-boy, like the beautiful Gene Tierney?

Any other suggestions are welcome, thanks for your help 🙂

XOXO
