Film Noir Photoshoot!

ArseniaAimeeShootB&W

On Christmas Eve, I stopped in to see my amazing friend and genius hairdresser Arsenia Barias at her salon, Altagracia Unisex. I decided I wanted to try something new for the upcoming year and after watching the film for “Water For Elephants” (one of my favorite books of all time), I was very inspired by Reese Witherspoon’s 1920’s/1930’s chic bob! Hurricanes, Floods and Power Outages, Oh My!

Oh, Sandy! If only you could be as kind and gentle as your Grease counterpart. But no, it seems you are a nasty, relentless beyotch hellbent on wreaking havoc on us poor, unsuspecting East Coasters! Sigh… Continue reading

Just A Girl: Gwen Stefani, Fashionista Fatale!

When I was a teenager in the mid 90’s, there was this awesome music video channel called “The Box”. Unlike MTV, this network charged viewer’s to select a video that they wanted to see. Well, one fateful day in 1995, someone had requested No Doubt’s debut video “Just A Girl” about 25 times in a row. I was completely transfixed on the television. While the song was amazing (and still gives me goosebumps to this day), there was something about that energetic blonde with the pinup perfect hair and unique sense of style that I just could not get enough of. From that moment on, I had become a die-hard “Gwenabee”! Continue reading

Mila Kunis Goes Retro: Miss Dior Fall 2012 Ad Campaign

Following in her “Black Swan” co-star Natalie Portman’s footsteps, Mila Kunis is now the new face of Miss Dior. While her Spring 2012 campaign was beautiful, she really knocked it out of the park with this surprisingly retro look for fall.

I’ve loved her ever since I saw her for the first time on “That 70’s Show”, (one of my guilty pleasures).  While her character Jackie Burkhart was a spoiled, bossy and often times mean-spirited teen, she has since showcased her acting versatility in major motion pictures like “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and  “Friends With Benefits”. Not to mention being the voice of Meg Griffin on Family Guy!

These amazing black and white  photographs, taken by Mario Sorrenti, depict Ms. Kunis as a glamorous 1950’s starlet being hounded by photographers. She looks oh so chic in her jeweled sweater, pencil skirt and of course her classic crocodile chain link handbag!

Just gorgeous! Mila, you are pin up perfection 😉

Katy Keene: America’s Queen of Pin-Ups and Fashions

Exactly who is Katy Keene?

That’s what I wondered aloud to myself the first time I saw her comic books next to my usual Archie titles in the newsstand at LaGuardia Airport. I was 7 or 8 years old getting prepped for a family flight down to Florida. She reminded me of Veronica but much more flamboyant and fashionable. I asked my mom and she purchased the book for my in flight entertainment. Sure enough, by the time we landed in sunny Florida I had read that first digest cover to cover and I was hooked. This girl was awesome! Smart, beautiful, kind and spunky! Little did I know she had been around long before I discovered her in the 1980’s. Continue reading

Hey Sailor Launch Party @ M.A.C. Store in SOHO!

Last night I was invited to the M.A.C. store to celebrate the launch of their latest collection entitled Hey Sailor! I was so excited about this line as it was inspired by the classic American pin-up girls of the 1940’s.

The place was jam-packed with gorgeous gals and dapper boys all decked out in custom sailor hats and nautical attire while the DJ was spinning out The Andrew Sisters, Benny Goodman and other swingtastic tunes. My favorite part of this event was the stunning woman they had tap dancing in the store window. She was dressed in a retro striped two-piece with her patent leather tap shoes and she looked amazing. People were practically pressed up against the glass to snap a photo of this girl!

While I did do my eye makeup before arriving, I made sure to leave my lips bare so I could try on all of the new lip-colours one by one! I have so say that M.A.C. lipstick is one of the best on the market. Not only do they smell like Haagen Dazs vanilla ice cream but their colours are vivid and long-lasting. My favorite shade of the night? Red Racer, although Sail La Vie was a close second. What can I say, I love a red lip!

I ended up running into some old friends and made some new ones while oohing and ahhing over the makeup. Nothing like a little retro glamour to bring fashionable people together! I had a swell time!

Inside Generation Style: IFB Fashion Show!

Wednesday night I was invited to the “Inside Generation Style” fashion show at the Metropolitan pavilion!

The event was sponsored by IFB (Independent Fashion Bloggers) and Intel. What made the show unique was that instead of professional models, the show featured fashion bloggers strutting their stuff down the runway!

I liked that they chose different types of real gals to model for this function, including plus-size. The clothes were all from Norma Kamali’s Kamali Kulture collection with handbags by Orla Kiely and jewelry by Baublebar. The hair was done by Arrojo Studio, which made me smile because I used to love watching Mr. Arrojo himself when he was on TLC’s “What Not To Wear”!

I have to admit, I felt a bit intimidated as I did not know anyone at the event and I went solo, but I met some very nice people and had a great time!

Looking forward to attending more of IFB’s future events 🙂

Mad About “Mad Men”!

Last night was the highly anticipated return of AMC’s Emmy winning drama series “Mad Men” and I couldn’t have been happier.
Seemed like March 25th couldn’t come fast enough as I have been waiting on pins and needles for Season 5 to finally air for the last 17 months!
