Silver Belles

Circa 1950's American actress Esther Williams with balloons at Christmas time.

With less than 2 days until Christmas, I’m sure you Dolls are stressed out with last-minute gift shopping and other holiday preparations. It’s hard to believe it’s really that time of year again! It feels like only yesterday it was summer (Man, I miss my flip-flops!) Continue reading

Cat On A Hot Tin Roof: Elizabeth Taylor, Hollywood Catlady!

A few things come to mind when one thinks of Elizabeth Taylor; Her amazing collection of jewelry, her incomparable beauty, her 8 marriages, her role as Cleopatra, etc. But “catlady”? Er, not so much.   Continue reading

NY Fashion Week Spring 2013: Best Vintage & Retro Looks!

Fashion Week came and went ever so quickly this September and there were a surprising amount of vintage inspired collections on the runways! While I am not much of a label hound (Seriously, who has that kind of money to burn?), I like seeing designers with a retro spirit and obvious appreciation for the classics. After going through what felt like a zillion photos from all of the shows, I managed to weed out the best vintage looks for Spring 2013! From 1930’s Art Deco evening wear to mid-century floral frocks, there’s a little something for everyone 😉 Continue reading

Yvonne De Carlo: Fashionista Fatale!

Before she was our beloved Lilly Munster, Yvonne De Carlo was a serious screen siren in the 1940’s and 1950’s. She had one of the most beautiful faces in Hollywood and a style to match. Originally hired by Paramount for her resemblance to Dorothy Lamour, De Carlo quickly proved that she was her own woman and went on to play lead roles in dozens of major motion pictures.  Continue reading

Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow…

Hey there Guys and Dolls! I am cutting my locks in a couple of weeks and I am having a difficult time deciding what exactly I should do with it. It has never been this quite this long before (it is now down to my butt!) and I think it is time to let it go. That being said, deciding on a new style/length is way more trying than I had anticipated. I plan to donate 10-18 inches to charity and am willing to go super short. I’ve been pouring over various photos and magazines trying to find something I like. I have narrowed it down to a few choices I think will work for me. What do you guys think?

My current state of affairs, lol

The longest of the bunch, like the lovely Rita Hayworth?

Shorter and full-bodied, a la Jane Russel?

Just above the shoulder, like the stunning Liz Taylor?

Or a classic shoulder length page-boy, like the beautiful Gene Tierney?

Any other suggestions are welcome, thanks for your help 🙂

XOXO

Topsy Turban!

One of my favorite go-to accessories in the summer months is a turban! These babies are truly magnificent at covering up a bad hair day or keeping all of your hair off of your neck and shoulders when the mercury starts rising. There’s just something about a turban that always looks chic and glamorous. Many of old Hollywood’s elite have been photographed wearing this timeless head adornment since the early turn of the century. Continue reading

Drugstore Delight of The Month: Elizabeth Taylor Eyes By Loreal

Elizabeth Taylor was one of the most beautiful women of the 20th century. Most notably, for her amazingly rare eyes. They were said to be amethyst in color and Ms. Taylor always played up her most breathtaking feature with the help of a deep jet black eye liner. Continue reading

What do Clara Bow, Mae West, Rita Hayworth, Lauren Bacall, Gene Tierney, Lena Horne and Barbara Stanwyck have in common? They were all born in Brooklyn, New York! Continue reading

Vintage Screen Sirens For Lustre-Creme Shampoo

Image

You’d be hard pressed these days to find an advertisement, commercial or a magazine cover with a model in it. Celebrities are promoting darn near everything today, especially cosmetics and hair products! Scarlet Johansson for Dolce & Gabbana, Emma Stone for Revlon and Jennifer Lopez for Loreal (and then some! Seriously, when does the woman SLEEP?) are just a few that come to mind.
