Retro Revival: Jessica Chastain vs. Sophia Loren

There is something so elegant and timeless about a black lace dress with a nude underlay. It is both sexy and ladylike at the same time. Today’s retro revival comes to you courtesy of Miss Sophia Loren and Miss Jessica Chastain, two lovely ladies clad in two very similar lacy frocks!

Jessica recently wore this amazing Oscar De La Renta Pre-Fall 2013 dress to the NYC premiere of the film “Mama”. While that movie looks way too scary for my taste, this stunning cocktail dress is absolutely my cup of tea! Paired with an extraordinary diamond collar by Harry Winston, she is pure vintage perfection! Such a classic retro look on a classically beautiful girl! 

Speaking of classically beautiful, I found this photo of screen siren Sophia Loren in an equally stunning black lace dress from the 1950’s. Sophia paired hers with a fabulous veiled hat and simple black heels. 

I personally adore both of these dresses, but I prefer the neckline of Jessica’s paired with the fuller flared a line skirt from Sophia’s. To me, that would be a perfect combination! As for the accessories  you can’t go wrong with Harry Winston or a magnificent veiled topper 😉

Happy Birthday Elvis: The King’s 78th!

Today Mr. Elvis Presley would have been 78 years old! Hard to believe considering he, much like Marilyn Monroe, never seemed to waver in popularity. I’d dare say he is the most celebrated American Musician of the 20th century, and rightfully so.

Well, it is officially New Years Eve, it also happens to be my 31st birthday today! I’m not sure how it happened but alas, here we are! lol

Film Noir Photoshoot!

On Christmas Eve, I stopped in to see my amazing friend and genius hairdresser Arsenia Barias at her salon, Altagracia Unisex. I decided I wanted to try something new for the upcoming year and after watching the film for “Water For Elephants” (one of my favorite books of all time), I was very inspired by Reese Witherspoon’s 1920’s/1930’s chic bob!

With less than 2 days until Christmas, I’m sure you Dolls are stressed out with last-minute gift shopping and other holiday preparations. It’s hard to believe it’s really that time of year again! It feels like only yesterday it was summer (Man, I miss my flip-flops!)

Sooooo….I somehow managed to erase a very important web address last month that was linked to all of my blog posts and photos which is irretrievable, rendering them invisible to search engines. Whoopsie daisy! Apparently technology is not my strong suit, lol.

Vintage Inspired Beauty Products Under $10.00!

I have always been a sucker for pretty packaging. If I had a choice between two identical products but one had a beautiful label and the other didn’t, I would likely go with the nicer looking one! It seems that products of yesteryear had much more decorative and elaborate packaging than their contemporary counterparts. Artful drawings, elegant fonts, metal tins, beveled glass bottles and other little touches made these items appear special. 

Retro Revival: Jessica Alba Vs. Grace Kelly

Designers are constantly influenced by styles of the past whether it be a silhouette, a pattern, a cut or a fabric. Whenever I really like a contemporary garment, it is almost always because it reminds me of something vintage. So, when I saw the lovely Jessica Alba in this Valentino Resort 2013 gown, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of deja vu!

It’s Personal 11/4/12: Sandy’s Aftermath, Let There Be Light!

Shortly after my last post, Lower Manhattan lost power. We had no electricity, heat or running water for 5 days. As of Friday evening, we got our electric back but still have no heat and only ice-cold water. As I write this post, I am wearing 2 sweaters, a wool scarf and a hat as temperatures dip into the upper 30’s.
