I have always been a sucker for pretty packaging. If I had a choice between two identical products but one had a beautiful label and the other didn’t, I would likely go with the nicer looking one! It seems that products of yesteryear had much more decorative and elaborate packaging than their contemporary counterparts. Artful drawings, elegant fonts, metal tins, beveled glass bottles and other little touches made these items appear special. Continue reading
Designers are constantly influenced by styles of the past whether it be a silhouette, a pattern, a cut or a fabric. Whenever I really like a contemporary garment, it is almost always because it reminds me of something vintage. So, when I saw the lovely Jessica Alba in this Valentino Resort 2013 gown, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of deja vu! Continue reading
I first met Ashley at the MAC Hey Sailor event back in the spring when I was instantly drawn to her awesome retro updo. As fate would have it, I had the pleasure of running into her again at the 41st Annual East Village Block Fair a couple of weeks ago. It was funny because I didn’t even recognize her as the last time I saw her she was a redhead with glasses! Ashley is truly a little pinup chameleon and I just adored this darker rockabilly look. Fashion Week came and went ever so quickly this September and there were a surprising amount of vintage inspired collections on the runways! While I am not much of a label hound (Seriously, who has that kind of money to burn?), I like seeing designers with a retro spirit and obvious appreciation for the classics. After going through what felt like a zillion photos from all of the shows, I managed to weed out the best vintage looks for Spring 2013! From 1930’s Art Deco evening wear to mid-century floral frocks, there’s a little something for everyone 😉 Continue reading

Since I posted about Orange lipstick last week, I have found myself being drawn to the colour like a moth to a flame! So when I spied this little citrus hued floral sundress in someone else’s arms at a local thrift store, I made sure to (politely) hover in her vicinity in case she decided to skip it. Lucky for me, she did not purchase it.
After trying it on, I knew I had to take it home with me. The thing that surprised me the most about this frock was that it is not actually vintage, which it certainly appeared at first glance. Nope! This fit n’ flare dress was made by none other than Isaac Mizrahi…for Target! At 10 bucks, I just could not resist. Continue reading

I have been wanting to do a regular post about women on the streets of NYC for a while now. Every time I saw an outfit or a hairstyle that I wanted to photograph, I didn’t have my camera with me! Luckily, earlier this week I spotted the lovely Aurora while shopping on Clinton Street and I just happened to have my Nikon handy! Continue reading
Wedding season is upon us, gals and its time to do it up right! I’ve read so many articles lately about what to wear to this kind of wedding or that kind of wedding. While that’s all well and good, and there are certainly some guidelines that should be upheld when selecting proper wedding attire, I had yet to see any vintage style dresses assembled for the nuptial occasion! So, I did a little digging and hand selected some great pics for all of you ladies out there with a mailbox full of wedding invitations and nothing to wear! All of these dresses are under $100.00 and unlike that Pepto-Bismol pink bridesmaids dress you have shoved in the back of your closet, these frocks can be worn again and again.
Every now and then while thrifting or digging through a pile of clothes at a local fleamarket, you will find a truly unexpected gem. For me, it happened over memorial day weekend when it was super hot and humid and I was just about to leave. I happened to spy this beautiful sweater dress sticking out from underneath a bunch of random clothing. Immediately intrigued, I pulled her out from the abyss to have a closer look. I asked the price, 3 whole dollars, and upon viewing the label, I knew I had just made a super score. It was a Milly dress! Milly is one of my favorite brands because not only do her designs eloquently mimic lust-worthy vintage looks but the quality and cut of her garments are superb. Continue reading
