Last Friday, I attended the Manhattan Vintage Show and I still feel like I am walking on cloud nine! It was my first time seeing it and from the minute I stepped inside, I felt as though I were home. I walked through what felt like endless rows of some of the finest treasures I’ve ever encountered with a sense of wonder and amazement. For me, it was like that first moment when Willy Wonka opened the doors to the chocolate room, lol! It was honestly a bit overwhelming. I didn’t know where to look first and my heart was pounding a mile a minute while my brain tried to process what I was seeing! It’s hard to put into words what it was like to visit such a place, I think it is something every true vintage lover should experience firsthand. Continue reading →
I first met Ashley at the MAC Hey Sailor event back in the spring when I was instantly drawn to her awesome retro updo. As fate would have it, I had the pleasure of running into her again at the 41st Annual East Village Block Fair a couple of weeks ago. It was funny because I didn’t even recognize her as the last time I saw her she was a redhead with glasses! Ashley is truly a little pinup chameleon and I just adored this darker rockabilly look. Every September, the East Village has these little block fairs on Saturdays and they are chock full of vintage treasures! It’s like a mini block long flea market right in the middle of Manhattan. It was an absolutely gorgeous weather day with a cool breeze, lots of warm sunshine and merchandise that was ripe for the picking! I got some good deals, met some great people and had a fantastic time! Continue reading →
I realize I have not put up any new content since Saturday but it has been a busy week here for me in NYC. Today, I am taking a much needed mini-vaca and am heading out of town for the first time all summer! Woo Hoo!
Don’t fret Darlings, next week I will be back in action with lots of new posts and fun little ditties for y’all to enjoy 😉
There are lots of local markets on the weekend here in the city, but Hester Street Fair is one that is favored by many. This small patch of gated concrete inside of Seward Park attracts foodies, artisans and of course, vintage lovers! So, I decided to see what all the hub bub was about and took a stroll there this afternoon through the many tented booths chock full of good eats and secondhand treasures. Continue reading →
Okay, I know I said I would be cutting my hair in a few weeks, but I just couldn’t wait! Last Saturday it was 100 degrees here in NYC and I thought to myself “how much cooler would I be right now if I didn’t feel like there was a cat sitting on top of my head?!”. The sheer weight of my hair was giving me a headache and I was in desperate need of relief! So, I called my best friend and after straightening my mane, we put it into 4 ponytails for donation and cut them off together at her place! It was quite an ordeal as far as preparation, but as soon as I felt the scissor going through my hair, I felt elated! Continue reading →
I have been wanting to do a regular post about women on the streets of NYC for a while now. Every time I saw an outfit or a hairstyle that I wanted to photograph, I didn’t have my camera with me! Luckily, earlier this week I spotted the lovely Aurora while shopping on Clinton Street and I just happened to have my Nikon handy! Continue reading →
I finally stopped back into “A Little Wicked” yesterday to visit my girl Sammy D and give her a little vintage love. I bought her a crystal necklace from a fleamarket a month ago and had been carrying it around in my purse ever since! I decided that our paths needed to cross and we had a ball at the shop. It was hot and humid out, so I needed to whip up something cool and refreshing from my closet. I purchased this vintage playsuit/romper over the winter. I love the vibrant floral print and the cut of the fabric makes the most of my shape. A great find at $12.00 (Thrifted). I decided to keep my jewelry low key and put in tiny studs and my vintage sterling puffy heart necklace. I also wore a vintage corsage blossom in my hair and clipped it all up on top of my head. It is too gosh darn humid to let her loose! The vintage orange leather heels were from the shop and was a last-minute replacement for my patent leather Birkenstock sandals. Lastly, the hand-painted parasol was purchased in Chinatown for around $5.00. I am a huge fan of parasols in the summer months as they provide shade for my fair skin while looking glamorous at the same time. This was a fun outfit, can’t wait to wear it again 😉Continue reading →
Picked up a couple of vintage goodies over the weekend while scouring the local markets. Check out my mini haul below 😉Vintage 1950’s rhinestone dog brooch $3.00. I love figural brooches, especially animals. I saw his little green eyes and knew I had to adopt him!
Last night I was invited to the M.A.C. store to celebrate the launch of their latest collection entitled Hey Sailor! I was so excited about this line as it was inspired by the classic American pin-up girls of the 1940’s.
The place was jam-packed with gorgeous gals and dapper boys all decked out in custom sailor hats and nautical attire while the DJ was spinning out The Andrew Sisters, Benny Goodman and other swingtastic tunes. My favorite part of this event was the stunning woman they had tap dancing in the store window. She was dressed in a retro striped two-piece with her patent leather tap shoes and she looked amazing. People were practically pressed up against the glass to snap a photo of this girl!
While I did do my eye makeup before arriving, I made sure to leave my lips bare so I could try on all of the new lip-colours one by one! I have so say that M.A.C. lipstick is one of the best on the market. Not only do they smell like Haagen Dazs vanilla ice cream but their colours are vivid and long-lasting. My favorite shade of the night? Red Racer, although Sail La Vie was a close second. What can I say, I love a red lip!
I ended up running into some old friends and made some new ones while oohing and ahhing over the makeup. Nothing like a little retro glamour to bring fashionable people together! I had a swell time!
