Last night I was invited to the M.A.C. store to celebrate the launch of their latest collection entitled Hey Sailor! I was so excited about this line as it was inspired by the classic American pin-up girls of the 1940’s.
The place was jam-packed with gorgeous gals and dapper boys all decked out in custom sailor hats and nautical attire while the DJ was spinning out The Andrew Sisters, Benny Goodman and other swingtastic tunes. My favorite part of this event was the stunning woman they had tap dancing in the store window. She was dressed in a retro striped two-piece with her patent leather tap shoes and she looked amazing. People were practically pressed up against the glass to snap a photo of this girl!
While I did do my eye makeup before arriving, I made sure to leave my lips bare so I could try on all of the new lip-colours one by one! I have so say that M.A.C. lipstick is one of the best on the market. Not only do they smell like Haagen Dazs vanilla ice cream but their colours are vivid and long-lasting. My favorite shade of the night? Red Racer, although Sail La Vie was a close second. What can I say, I love a red lip!
I ended up running into some old friends and made some new ones while oohing and ahhing over the makeup. Nothing like a little retro glamour to bring fashionable people together! I had a swell time!
Wednesday night I was invited to the “Inside Generation Style” fashion show at the Metropolitan pavilion!
The event was sponsored by IFB (Independent Fashion Bloggers) and Intel. What made the show unique was that instead of professional models, the show featured fashion bloggers strutting their stuff down the runway!
I liked that they chose different types of real gals to model for this function, including plus-size. The clothes were all from Norma Kamali’s Kamali Kulture collection with handbags by Orla Kiely and jewelry by Baublebar. The hair was done by Arrojo Studio, which made me smile because I used to love watching Mr. Arrojo himself when he was on TLC’s “What Not To Wear”!
I have to admit, I felt a bit intimidated as I did not know anyone at the event and I went solo, but I met some very nice people and had a great time!
Looking forward to attending more of IFB’s future events 🙂
Last week, my mom and I drove upstate for a couple of days of R&R, with a healthy dollop of thrifting to boot! I used to hit the Salvation Army and Goodwill up in this neck of the woods all the time growing up and I would be able to find great vintage treasures! Unfortunately, the sport of thrifting has become so mainstream and competitive that many of yesterdays hotspots are now little more than picked clean carcasses! It’s become much harder to find good pieces, but every now and again, you get lucky. I managed to get a hold of a few goodies in my travels and I did it on the super cheap! Sometimes, you just gotta get out of the city and with deals this good, you gotta do it often! Continue reading →
Most of you who know me are fully aware of my love affair with Betsey Johnson. In my eyes, the woman can do no wrong! So with a credit card in my hand and visions of pink tutus in my head, I made the trip up to the Times Square area to check out her Spring sample sale at the Millennium Broadway Hotel!
My earliest memory of Billy’s is of driving past it every morning on my way to elementary school. Whenever we got stopped at the light on Houston & Bowery, homeless men would bombard the car and before you could say otherwise, they were spraying the windshield with cloudy blue liquid, smearing a soiled rag across its surface, making it dirtier than it originally was. The streets were desolate, just empty lots full of debris and overgrown weeds. Not exactly the kind of place you would want to spend time, unless of course you were looking to score some drugs. It was a fairly miserable rainy day today here in NYC, so I decided to wear something Springy and cheerful to brighten my mood. What better way to chase away the blues than to rock hot pink and a sweet floral print?
